Eurovision was yesterday, some people hate it, some people love it, in my own opinion I love it….  UK came last as per usual with the exception that we were joint last with two other countries (Germany, Poland).

  • The UK entry (Very good but no one votes for the UK with the exception of Ireland.)
  • Bulgaria (GREAT song but didn’t get into the finals, shame)

  •  My favourite was Latvia (me being me). I voted for it once.

To be honest eastern countries don’t really get a look in for Eurovision, people vote politically and nneighbourly, which I can understand. UK may be pulling out for Eurovsion! Even Sir Terry Wogan said it was no longer a song contest.

(If your outside of Europe you probably don’t really understand this whole singing contest)

I cannot help thinking that it would be slightly better if each country’s competitor(s) sang in Esperanto.

Take a look at http://www.esperanto.net

Esperanto works! I’ve used it in speech and writing = and sung in it – in a dozen countries over recent years.
Indeed, the language has some remarkable practical benefits. Personally, I’ve made friends around the world through Esperanto that I would never have been able to communicate with otherwise. And then there’s the Pasporta Servo, which provides free lodging and local information to Esperanto-speaking travellers in over 90 countries. In the past year I have had guided tours of Berlin and Milan in the planned language. I have discussed philosophy with a Slovene poet, humour on television with a Bulgarian TV producer. I’ve discussed what life was like in East Berlin before the wall came down, how to cook perfect spaghetti, the advantages and disadvantages of monarchy, and so on.

What do you think?

I think they should have semi-finals, where a representative for each region is chosen. Because otherwise people just vote for their allies.
